A narcissist is someone who is excessively preoccupied with himself/herself either due to childhood trauma or by receiving excessive love from their parents. Before answering that Are You Tagging Along A Narcissist? You must first know what Narcissus, Narcissism and Narcissist are because these three terms are inter-related!

Narcissus:

                In Greek Mythology Narcissus – a hunter from Thespian territory in Boeotia was renowned for his beauty, his beauty made him exceptionally proud that he treated all those who loved him with haughty contempt and despise including Nymph Echo. Nemesis- Goddess of revenge saw this and attracted Narcissus to a pond where he saw his own reflection in the water and fell in love with himself not realizing that it was only his image never left the beauty of his reflection in the water. Some sources say he died and some say he changed in to a flower that now bears his name. Narcissism which is a concept of excessive selfishness has been recognized through this history and now in recent times it has been defined in psychological terms

Narcissism:

                    It is a word with a wide range of meanings depending on whether it is used to describe a mental illness, personality trait, or a theory. Here I’m taking this term to describe a personality trait that involves egoism, selfishness, self obsession and vanity, in psychology the term is used to describe self love and self-absorption.

Narcissist:

                     A narcissist is someone who is excessively preoccupied with himself/herself either due to childhood trauma or by receiving excessive love from their parents. In extreme conditions a person becomes disconnected from his / her reality and fails in building and maintaining relationships with other.

Since now you have familiarized yourself with these terms  and if  you are in relationship that has left you feeling frustrated and had made you ask yourself confusing questions then there could be a possibility that you are tagging yourself along a narcissist, here are a few signs for you to watch for and get rid of it before it is a too late for you because life is too short to live with compromises and sacrificing it for the one who wouldn’t, couldn’t and shouldn’t appreciate you  as he/ she in medical terms is sick!

1. Preoccupation with fantasies: everyone has dreams, who hasn’t? Right? But you’d always find a narcissist obsessed in his/her own world .They’d have visions for themselves as having unlimited power, success, love, brilliance and what not? And as soon you in his/her eyes become a living object you are nothing for him/her then.

2. Lack of appreciation: since a narcissist is someone who is totally self involved he, she/she wouldn’t have understanding of your feelings and if mistakenly you try to make him/her understand your feelings then, sorry, you’d get an I-DON’T- CARE- ATTITUDE because with him/her it is and would always be his/her problems and feelings that matters the most.

3. Wants excessive admiration:  A narcissist would always find ways to get complimented or respected by those around them leaving you in a self complex.

4. Controlling you nature:  A narcissist would always want things to revolve around him/ her, if it means that you want to go tonight to a friend’s place and he/she wouldn’t then forget it that you‘d stand a chance to have this visit ever because if it’s something that he/ she wouldn’t want to do then it’s not worth their time.

5. Manipulative:  Narcissist wouldn’t have any hesitation in manipulating you, your deeds and your talents so if he/ she is becoming over nice to you it’s only because they want something from you and this being nice would only be temporary.
